Does this sound like you?
You fear getting a computer virus from an email. You receive an email which you think may be legitimate but you are not sure. Your virus scanning software does a good job of protecting you but may not detect every virus in circulation. The sender's display name does not look familiar but for you it's not unusual to get email from strangers. You wrestle with the idea of whether to open it or just delete it. Curiosity gets the better of you and you open the email only to find out you've been hit with a virus.
You think, "If only I could see the email address before opening the message..." There is a way. In Outlook 2002, right click on the message and choose Options. Internet headers is a field displayed in the Message Options dialog box. Here you can see the header information to find the source of the message without opening the message. Armed with the message header information you can make a more informed choice regarding whether to open the email or not. |
