A 3 part series of articles on http://support.microsoft.com
Your Windows XP installation CD has a range of utilities to help you tweak settings, diagnose problems and get info about your operating system. Although many of these tools are designed for use in a corporate environment by experienced system administrators and network professionals there are others which are not so difficult to master. The more advanced tools include the likes of dnscmd.exe, a DNS management tool and dhcploc.exe, a DHCP server locator utility, neither of which will be of any use to the home user with only one or two PCs.
Although there is a heavy bias towards networking diagnostics the seasoned novice will find a number of other tools on the disc relevant and useful. If you've haven't been following our series, the Windows Support Tools can be found on your Windows XP CD under //cd drive letter//:\ SUPPORT\TOOLS. Double click on setup.exe and all the tools will be installed under your Program Files folder. Make sure that you choose Complete installation to ensure you get the full compliment of over 100 tools.
